Joan Corder's scheme was to record all of the descendants of one son, before moving on to those of the next-eldest. Her under-scoring was originally in colour, coded to indicate the steps of descent from George and Cassandra Austen. Only a black-and-white scan is currently available, and the manuscript is considered too fragile to be handled at present. The numeral after each name on this website indicates the number of steps back to George and Cassandra Austen, they being generation 0. In this website, each page can be clicked through in sequence using the arrows. Individual people can also be found by name through the Index.
NOTE: Links that take the reader to other pages of 'Akin to Jane', such as portraits and epitaphs, stay within this website, and clicking on the Return arrow at top left takes the reader back to earlier pages. The links at the foot of virtually every entry open a new window to my database at the family history site, RootsWeb. Closing that window leaves the 'Akin to Jane' page still showing on the screen. At RootsWeb it is possible to see charts of each person's ancestors and descendants, and other genealogical data. See the information at this link for uses of my Austen family tree.
