Born June 2nd 1889.
My early years were spent in Shrewsbury, and, after my father's death, some years in Wigan with my grandmother (my mother's mother.) then back to Shrewsbury, where I served my time as a Compositor.
I joined the Shropshire Royal Horse Artillery in 1908.
Moved to Cardiff in 1912.
Joined the Royal Field Artillery in August 1914, and served in Egypt, Salonika and Gallipoli. Came home, wounded, in the 'Aquitania' from Gallipoli, in October 1916.
In the last War I served in the 10th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry (Home Guard.) Joining as Private and later commissioned as second Lieutenant - Signalling Instructor.
I am now (1952) joint proprietor of a printing firm here, (at Bridgwater, Somerset) known as the Eastgate Press.
I have in my possession in the Davenport which belonged to Jane Austen and a family tree going back to 1500, also a clock and some family (crested) silver.
