Sir Edward Bridges Rice died at Dane Court eighteen years after his retirement, on October 9th 1902 – and was buried in Tilmanstone Churchyard. (Epitaph page 229)

Fanny Margaretta Rice. [3]
Born in 1820.
Baptized at Tilmanstone, November 12th 1820.
Married, October 17th 1849, George William Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchilsea and Nottingham. 'Fanny, who did not marry young, exercised great influence on her brothers and sisters, and this continued throughout her life. She was a family authority, and much respected and loved by all. Of her a niece wrote, 'Aunt Fanny was a wonder of goodness and sweetness, quite charming, my Godmother whom I loved, full of charm and kindness and beautiful manners.' Lastly, it must be recorded that Aunt Fanny was considered to be one of the great beauties of her day.'

The Countess of Winchilsea and Nottingham died on April 26th 1909.
