Francis William Austen continued.
... the Baltic Station, where he captured the American privateer 'Sword Fish' of 12 guns and 82 men.
Appointed a Colonel of Marines (in the Woolwich division) on May 27th 1825.
Promoted to Rear-Admiral, July 22nd 1830.
Promoted to Vice-Admiral, June 28th 1838.
He was given the chief command of the North America and West India station on December 27th 1844, with his flag in the 'Vindictive' of 50 guns.
Promoted Admiral of the Red on August 1st 1848.
Awarded the Good Service Pension on July 9th 1855.
Promoted Admiral of the Fleet in 1863.
He was nominated a Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on June 4th 1815; a Knight Commander of the Order (K.C.B.) on February 28th 1837; a Knight Grand Cross of the Order (G.C.B.) on May 18th 1860.
He received the Small Naval Gold Medal (inscribed 'Captain F. Austen') for St. Domingo 1806 – and the Naval General Service medal (inscribed 'Capt. F.W. Austen') with two bars, 'Peterel, 21st March, 1800' and 'St. Domingo.'

He married, first, July 24th 1806, Mary, daughter of John Gibson of Ramsgate. She died at Gosport, July 14th 1823, having had issue:
