George William Rice [3] continued.
... had the Syrian medal; and went out in the 'Fox' with Commander Lambert. Whilst leading the attack at Prome, he received a wound from a musket-ball passing in at the back of his hand and out at the wrist. The above operation was during the Second Burmese War 1852; he was also mentioned in despatches.
'George, Augustus and Cecil formed a middle group of brothers in the family at Dane Court, and were close friends. George's early death was a special grief to the remaining two. Although fourteen years passed before the birth of Cecil's eldest son, he was named George William after his loved brother.'
